Class 319 Contract Award.

Contract variation to add a further 4 x 4 car Class 319/4 vehicles to the existing FLEX contract.

Gemini Rail Services (GRS) are pleased to confirm that, following discussions with Porterbrook Leasing Company a contract variation has been signed to add a further 4 x 4 car Class 319/4 vehicles to the existing FLEX contract to supply vehicles to Keolis Amey Wales.

The additional units will follow on from the 5 x 4 car units initially contracted by Porterbrook to supply to Arriva Trains Wales and will be delivered from the Gemini Rail Services site in Wolverton to an agreed programme during 2019. The work will include the re-commissioning of the units and a full interior strip and re-fit, heater re-wiring, installation of an Ethernet backbone and guard’s control panel and the addition of forward facing and saloon CCTV and cab and passenger USB sockets.

Porterbrook’s FLEX programme involves the conversion of Class 319 trains into bi-mode (AC and diesel) or tri-mode (AC, DC and diesel) Class 769 units. GRS are working in collaboration with Porterbrook and Wabtec Brush to deliver these units following completion of 8 x units for Northern Rail and are also contracted to supply a further 19 x 4 car units for GWR with the added benefit of a bespoke air-cooling system included.
